At Roverlund, we know choosing the right carrier for your adventure buddy is essential to enjoying smooth journeys together. Whether youāre running errands around town or jetting off to far-away places, having a carrier that your pup is comfortable in is a necessity.
Here are our tips to select the rightĀ size Roverlund pet carrier!
WEIGH YOUR PUP
You can use your pup'sĀ estimated weight as a guide to select the best pet carrier size.
TheĀ Out-of-Office PetĀ Carrier comes in two sizes:
- SmallĀ (suitable for most dogs and cats 15 lbs and under)
- LargeĀ (suitable for most dogs and cats 25 lbs and under)
When in doubt, we always recommend going a size up.
MEASURE YOUR PUPāS LENGTH AND HEIGHT
If you have a measuring tape handy, you can also take their measurements to confirm it will be a good fit. Start at the front of their chest and measure the distance to their rear. For their height, measure from the top of their shoulder blade to the base of their paw.
- SmallĀ fits most dogs up to 16.5" in length and 10" in height
- Large fits most dogs up to 18.5ā in length and 12" in height.
Iāve received the carrier. How do I know it is the right fit?
It is okay if the carrier is a snugger fit, as long as your petĀ seems comfortable and can turn around inside the bag.
Most Pups Wonāt Stand Up in the Carrier
It is totally normal if your petĀ is not able to stand up in the carrier.
Think of the ideal size as a cozy, snuggly place for your pup or cat to curl up in and snooze. With soft-sided carriers like ours, most pupsāunless they are teacup or toy size breedsāwill not be able to stand up insideāand thatās okay!
Maximizing Your Pup's Space for AirĀ Travel
Our carriers are in-cabin compliantĀ with most major airlines.
Each carrier is designed to fit within the space under the seat in front of you, which is typically about 12ā in height.
Our pet carrier is one of the largest in-cabin compliantĀ carriers available. When traveling by plane with our Large size, we recommend removing your carrier'sĀ rear pocket insert. This way, your carrier's flexible rear frame can more easily conform to the seat requirements in front of you.
Please keep in mind that in-cabin pet policies are subject to change at any time, and we always encourage our customers to reach out to your specific airline prior to your planned travel with any concerns you may have.

Unfortunately sizing did not work for my size dog would highly recommend as it was well constructed.
My baby Dex was so comfortable in the carrier. He is 18lb and fits comfortably in the large size carrier. We boarded American Airline B-737 and ERJ-175, and the carrier fits perfect under the seat. The carrier is well made, and sturdy. We love that the holder can be used as leash.

I had a small issue with one of my carriers and they took care of it right away. My pups love their Roverlund carriers. I will be a loyal customer always.
I used the large carrier for my 13lb cat when I was driving across country. We had several nights of hotel stops and it was so convenient to plop her on my suitcase and be able to roll her in with me. I went with the large so sheād have space to stretch out while on the road (anywhere from 7-12 hours a day). She loved it. She got in easily without a fuss, and seemed less stressed than on her adventures in traditional hard sided carriers.
Bought this for my 30 lb corgi. So far it works. We havenāt flown with it yet. Will get back with news in February. One thing I do wish is that the side mesh could extend like some of the off brands do.
Very cute and cozy, and our dog loves it! Heās a 15-pound Coton and measured between a Medium and Large. I ordered Large and Iām so glad I didāthe smaller size wouldnāt have fit him at all. But this one is perfect. Highly recommend!
This carrier is well worth the price - itās extremely high quality. Many of the other brands are flimsy and may be a safety hazard if you have a pet that is 15+ lbs. I flew Southwest from Kansas City to California with my 23-lb Golden Cavalier in a size large. She did great! I did some initial training with her and gave her treats every time she got in it. Now when I bring it out, she jumps right in. I recommend choosing a window seat on the airplane as there is more room under the seat than in an aisle seat. 10/10!
Hands down the most comfortable well built and designed pet backpack. I recently purchased the airline carrier and the backpack. Both are amazing. Just had our first five hour flight with carrier. We also did a 20 mile hike through Yosemite with the pet backpack carrier highly recommend.
This is the nicest dog carrier I have ever seen. Extremely solid and sturdy, and it looks super cute. Great design. Worth the higher price.
Upon receiving this bag, itās obvious that it is made from quality materials and is sturdy enough to withstand travel and a pet. Our dog immediately took to the carrier and made herself very comfortable. She is a 22 pound mini goldendoodle and fits well in the large carrier. So far so good! Plan to travel by plane in a few weeks with it.
I have had the first carrier and loved it. I also love the new carrier I just got because you can strap it to suitcase to roll pet through airport. The carrier fits snug on airplanes but cozy for my pup.
We own the large and the small pet carrier for our small (but tall) pup. We have flown a lot with her but have only ever used the small one, as we donāt know if airlines would accept the large. The small carrier has been used many times on Breeze Airways, United, Southwest, and Jet Blue. Highly recommend.
