Q: Julian, when did you first know you wanted to be a dog dad?
When I turned 30 I wanted to do something really special for myself. I knew I was ready to take on the responsibility of being a dog dad and have the bestest fur pup ever! 🐶
Q: What is your favorite thing about being a dog dad?
Meeting all of the cool and awesome people and their dogs. People are more open to saying hello and I know McFly loves meeting new dog friends as well! 🤝
Q: How and when did you decide to get McFly?
My best friend had 2 shibas and I knew I wanted a dog that would be active and could keep up with me. It was between an Australian Cattle Dog and a Shiba. Looks like the shiba won out - and honestly - he's been the best decision of my life. 🥳
Q: What is the craziest thing McFly has done under your watch?
I found him balancing in our sink - all 4 legs on different dishes (yes. dont judge me - i didn't do the dishes for a week). The couch used to be close to our kitchen island and he was trying to get to the leftover pot roast on the other side of the sink.... 🤯
Q: What made you want to name McFly after Marty McFly from Back to the Future?
Back to the Future is the reason I am a director. And honestly, Marty McFly is one of the best characters in all of film history (in my opinion) - but also - Marty McFly and Doc Brown are two of the most iconic best friends... Why wouldn't I want to be like both of them.
Q: What song represents your relationship with McFly?
Beautiful Day by U2. 💝 U2 is my favorite band, but also. it's the song I start my day with when I'm on a walk with him. I never know what kind of adventure I'll have with him - and this sets the perfect tone.
Q: Where is your favorite place you have taken McFly in his Roverlund?
Portland, Oregon. I love hiking, and I moved here for McFly a few years back. He loves his Roverlund so much I've made a permanent spot for it in my office so he can sleep in it while I work. He knows now that if I pull the Roverlund into the living room it's time for another adventure. ✈️
Q: Do you have any exciting travel plans with McFly this summer?
We're gonna go to Yosemite and Seattle and Astoria. I love hiking and being outside and road tripping in my jeep.
Q: How do you plan to celebrate Dog Father's Day this year?
Since Dog Father's Day is also my birthday weekend we're gonna go on a road trip. We do it every year on my birthday and on his. Just me and McFly. shhhh don't tell my fiance... 🤫
Q: Are you doing something special for pride with your fiance this year?
Well the thing about pride is... it's every day for us 🌈 - not just one month within the year. We just try to live life with no regrets and no shame. It's a scary time, and I think it's important to be a part of our community so when we have kids they can be proud of us as well. 🏳️🌈
